Did you hear the one about the trans reporter who lost her job because of pressure from activists?
I just saw the Yankees play the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium, my first professional baseball game in about eight or nine years. I found it hilarious and delightful, but truth be told, I only have one true love when it comes to baseball.
The worst thing for me about this whole Chicago Dyke March incident (and others before it) is seeing my progressive activist friends utterly fail to recognize the libels, slanders and tropes that have been used to silence, reject and violate Jews for hundreds of years, if not more.
Ah, we've entered the unprecedented "Mad Libs" stage of the Banality of Evil. https://t.co/F5XCa1h70c — Ken Jennings (@KenJennings) April 3, 2017 I usually don’t share — can we call them incremental stories in the Trump-Russia thing, even when they’re massive, massive revelations? The thing is, it all tends to move so fast, and it’s easyContinue reading “Things I’m Verbing: Christian seders, future ruins and rappelling for suffrage”
the comments on this J.D. Vance piece are more compelling than the piece itself, I think: https://t.co/Rargs679r5 — Anne Helen Petersen (@annehelen) March 18, 2017 You don’t often hear exhortations to read the comments, but Anne Helen Petersen is right: Hillbilly Elegy writer J.D. Vance is awfully proud of himself for moving to Columbus, Ohio, anContinue reading “Things I’m Verbing: Abrahamic problems, skyscraper farms and fake hillbilly pride”

Again, the pace of daily news overwhelms me — are we still talking about Kellyanne Conway? If not, it’s a bit of a shame, if only because I was really looking forward to sharing Erin Gloria Ryan’s recent New York Times op-ed, which includes language so amazing, I can’t resist it even now, when we’ve allContinue reading “Things I’m Verbing: Singing fish, skeleton keys and apocalypse crystals”
Yet again, where do we even start? Before we dive in, let me share a good hour of nature sounds you can play in the background as you absorb the news. This one’s only an hour, as opposed to 10, but it’s lovely: My very favorite is the crackling fireplace, but I’m always on the lookoutContinue reading “Things I’m Verbing: Innovations in linguistics, the history of fear and TSA-proofing your phone”
The left: Should we punch nazis? Did that Barron joke cross a line? Is La La Land actually bad? The right: We just dismantled the New Deal. — Alex Fernie (@FernieCommaAlex) January 24, 2017 Hey, some week! Right? Right? It's extremely hard to be productive when you're constantly monitoring social media for the latest threatContinue reading “Things I’m Verbing: Vichy Democrats, Jewish allyship and some cute, smart dogs”
Have you seen Hidden Figures? You absolutely need to see Hidden Figures, a movie that makes no apologies for its brilliant Black women and for its depiction of the systems that humiliated and suppressed them. I just get really excited whenever I see that it’s doing well, and for a non-scifi film, it’s inspiring some incredible fanart.Continue reading “Things I’m Verbing: Inside/outside, middle ground and how to have a baby”
